RIP Small Etailer

In July, an employee at a small etailer where I like to shop was kind enough to answer a few questions for me by email about how the etailing business is going, and how big stores like Amazon are affecting them. I wrote this up as a post Hard Times for Small Etailers. The etailer is a specialty toy store that enhanced their bricks-and-mortar business by having a nice website.  Sadly enough, I got mail earlier this week that they are closing.

The question I have, though, is whether the business was a victim of the general economic doldrums we are experiencing or were there additional forces at work specifically because they were etailers.

Will, I’ve spoken with them, and the answer is: definitely both. Aggregators like Amazon are squeezing their margins for online sales. Problems with online business and store business are both factors–I would love to find out the breakdown.
